“Delivered:” is a series in which we look at crowdfunded ideas that have successfully shipped to their supporters. We dive into the final product, after its long journey from concept to fulfillment.

Wado brand is a company that is helping me shift toward a more sustainable lifestyle. With sneakers that are ecofriendly, the purchase of them funds reforestation, and provides work to locals in India, Zambizia and Portugal. Their mission is to provide a way for everyday people to help areas of the world that are struggling with deforestation learn how to properly care for and sustain the environment by planting two trees for every pair of shoes that you buy. I was very impressed by their mission and purchased my sneakers in order to support them.

The sneakers that I received are very comfortable and made with high quality products. They are stylish and follow the same trends as other popular shoes. They are made out of products that are helpful for the environment. Wado uses Chromuim free leather on their shoes which helps their workers avoid the dangerous effects of the toxic chemical, providing a biodegradable product, and an ethical work environment. The lack of chromium also means that my feet are not coming in contact with this harmful product. I had a variety of colors to choose from, the shoes come in blue, beige, black, garnet, green, and white.

When I purchased my sneakers I learned more about the mission of WADO. The reforestation effort that they are funding provides employment to locals, and helps to teach them about taking care of the environment. I read from their website that it is estimated that within 100 years there will be no more rainforests. The rate of deforestation equals the loss of 20 football feilds every minute. So far the company has planted 14,000 trees in India and 10,000 in Zambia.  I love that they are not only planting trees but they are also providing work to those in need. I felt like this was my way of making a difference to those struggling countries.

The cost of the sneakers is about the cost of an average pair of shoes. They are mostly white which makes it easy to match them to whatever I am wearing. You can view these shoes at WADO, and find out more about their effort.
