“Game On” is a series in which we examine the companies, creators, and games in crowdfunding. We look at the journey, ideas, and concepts the creators wanted to bring to market with their product.

Mercury Games was started by industry veterans Kevin Nesbitt and Rich Diosi in 2012. They have published many games before starting this company and are considered to be industry veterans who have a reputation for publishing high quality productions and industry best value. Mercury Games is a Customer focused company who has the goal of publishing unique games that offer quality, value, and fun. They distribute world wide through most traditional supply chains. They have published games such as “The Guns of Gettysburg”, and “Princes of the Renaissance”, and “Container”. They launched a reprint of the popular game “Container” in a 10th Anniversary Jumbo Edition.

Mercury Games had launched many other games on Kickstarter with a lot of success. They launched Their Anniversary Edition of “Container” on Kickstarter on July 26 2017. They were able to make it to their goal within just a few hours and also unlock one of their stretch goals. Throughout their campaign they were able to offer an extended 15-pack add on to their game for those that were backing it so that they could play an extended version of the game. Throughout their campaign they encouraged their backers to reach out to friends on social media about the game release. They were able to complete their first batch of preorder and backer shipments by August of 2018.

The first printing of container happened in 2007, and it set a new standard for open economy board games. It was highly valued for its ability to produce different outcomes. Ten years later the reprint of "Container" has all of the fun as the original edition but has two changes as it is a jumbo edition. The ships and containers are actually bigger than the original edition. There is also an add on to the game that is an investment bank, it operates independently of the other players the game and features three brokers who are seeking to earn profits. They offer both cash and extra containers to the players, and also function as an extra port that the players can visit.

"Container" is about big ships and big production. Each player produces and ships their own goods. They decide what products that they want to produce, and which of the other players goods they want to ship out to their remote island. During this part of the game the players will set prices for their goods and try to make a maximum profit. Once their goods have reached the island they will play the purchaser of the goods for their islands.  The players will bid for goods arriving each day by ship and the highest bidder collects the goods. As the player use their strategy to sell good and also provide for their island.
