“Game On” is a series in which we examine the companies, creators, and games in crowdfunding. We look at the journey, ideas, and concepts the creators wanted to bring to market with their product.

Dinosaur Island was a collaborative effort by game designers Jon Gilmour and Brian Lewis of Pandasaurus Games. The game was so popular in its original release that the creators brought it back for a second release on Kickstarter. Jon Gilmour is known for his designs from Dead of Winter and Wasteland Express Delivery Service. And Brian Lewis created Machi Koro, Yedo, and Wasteland Express Delivery Service. The amazing award winning technicolor artwork was created by Kwanchai Moriya and Peter Wocken.

The game Dinosaur Island was extremely popular on Kickstarter with the first release. It sold out instantly and then started going for ridiculous prices on the secondary market. It won numerous awards with 4 Golden Geek nominations including strategy game of the year, thematic game of the year, best artwork and presentation and overall game of the year. The game had been sold out until the creators decided that they would launch it on Kickstarter for a second time adding in some exclusive items that would only be available through the campaign. Dinosaur Island launched for a second time on March 12, 2018. By April 20 the campaign had successfully raised over 2 million dollars.

In the game Dinosaur Island players are able to build dinosaurs and then also build a park around them to attract visitors. Players collect DNA and  combine it in the right sequence in order to bring dinosaurs back to life. And are then able to take the dinosaurs and run their own park. Different dinosaurs attract more attention than others with predators attracting the most attention but with those dinosaurs they need to have a big enough pen and also have security or they will break out and start attacking the park guests.

With the re-release of Dinosaur Island they added Extreme Editions, Totally Liquid, and Duelosaur Island. With the release of extreme editions they were able to bring back all of the original stretch goals from Dinosaur Island 1.0 and also include some items that were too expensive for the original release. Dino Meeples, new slimmer metal coins, researcher Beeker Meeples and all the Kickstarter exclusive plot twists. A new slap bracelet was also in the extreme edition that marks the first player. A sequel of Duelosaur Island has also been included in the release of the game that allows a two player mode.
